GET TO KNOW THE ARTIST

Derek Burleson

Derek comes from an artistic family.  His dad, Wayne Burleson, was a commercial artist for Western Auto from the mid-1960s through mid-1970s.  His aunt, Marguerita Moats, was not only an art professor at the University of Kansas, but a well-known artist in Mexico.
Derek began painting early in life; however, he spent much of his life in law enforcement with the Leavenworth Police Department.  After retiring in June 2016 as a Police Sergeant after 28 years, he took up painting again.  He has painted in both oil and acrylics, but now concentrates in acrylics.  He enjoys a wide variety of ArtFields – painting, woodworking, duck decoys, and lathe-work.
